«And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!’ (Romans 10:15)
A GREAT NUMBER of biographies have been published in books, as well as in films and documentaries, but few have moved me as much as the story of Angela, a woman of flesh and bone about whom no one will ever likely publish anything. At least there will be a short biographical profile in these pages about this exceptional person.
Angela is a missionary at heart who is more than eighty years old today. She lives in Costa Rica with her husband, who was a minister of the Word. Throughout her life, Angela gave constant demonstrations of being a daughter of God with an immovable faith, and when the hour of trial arrived, her faith did not fail. It is easy to be a happy, thankful, dynamic Christian when we feel victorious and life is going in our favor. How easy it is to smile, to give thanks, and to believe you have attained happiness. However, what happens when illness knocks at the door? For Angela, nothing different happened to what happened on her good days.
She spent several years of her life being ill, going from hospital to hospital, fighting stomach cancer. Once the tumor was removed surgically, she received frequent dialysis treatments that affected her kidneys, However, she got to her feet every day and said to herself: «1 have to go to the other ward; there are still eight beds whose patients I have not talked to about Jesus,» With a big smile on her lips, like someone who has no ailment of any kind, Angela would leave on a mission.
One night, after doing emergency surgery on her, the doctor commented: «I’m going; she will not be alive when I return tomorrow.» The next day, Angela was there, waiting with a smile on her lips and ready to preach to him again. On many occasions, she had spoken to him about God and he had said to her: «I do not believe God exists.» However, that day when he expected to find her dead, he said: «Today I believe that God really exists.»
If Angela could praise God in the midst of the most difficult trial in life, you can as well. %rough your powerful witness of trust in God, many people will be able to see for the first time what being a Christian exactly means. For those people, you can be the Angela in their path.
