«Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls’ » (Jeremiah 6:16).
THUS, SAYS THE LORD: ‘Stand in the ways and see, and ask or old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls'» (Jeremiah 6:16). I do not know about you, but to me, the phrase «you will find rest 6r your souls» sounds heavenly. It is something that I want, an invitation I accept. Thus, I think that it is well worth the trouble to analyze those four commands from the Lord that lead to rest for the soul: 1) Stand 2) «see,» 3) «ask,» and 4) «walk.» Let us see what each one can mean.
«Stand.» Standing is the first thing you must do when you are lost. Stop your daily commotion, the rush from here to there that is taking you away from your essential connection with God. Stop for a moment, because that anxiety that you feel in your life and that leads you to think that your soul needs rest is because of an accelerated routine in which a real connection with God is conspicuous by its absence.
«See» God is calling you to change your direction. You have to think, reconsider, pay attention to the various paths that open up before you every day. He wants you to retrace what you have walked and go back to the old path, the path of salvation that He has always put before you. However, it is you who has to see, value, and finally, decide.
«Ask.» Why not turn to those people who reveal the love of God, who clearly seek His presence every day, who are a wellspring of biblical wisdom and of spirituality? And of course, delve directly into the Word of God; it is there for you, for your life.
«Walk.» Go into action. The gospel is not to be read and kept in a box; it is to be lived. more you live it, the more it transforms you, and the more meaning and purpose it will have for your life. Perhaps the restlessness of your soul is because you have not walked for a while in the purpose you know God has for you.
If you have forgotten your first love and you have followed paths that lead to an end you do not want, stop, analyze, study, and turn back. God is waiting there, wanting to give you rest, strength, and great victories.
