«Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God» (Matthew 5:9).
THROUGHOUT HISTORY, there have been various peacemakers in the political scene of nations, People like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King were able to mediate in extremely difficult conflicts without deviating in the least from non-violent approaches and always thinking of everyone’s freedoms. That was their gift, their ministry, and they exercised it skillfully, Thinking about them leads me to wonder whether Jesus would have been given the Nobel Peace Prize if He lived in our times, Perhaps He would have been disqualified over a single sentence that He said: «Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword» (Matthew 10:34),
He was the true Peacemaker, but He knew that His message would cause division. Do not expect that it will be different for you today, As the Christians that we are, we have received the ministry of reconciliation, the call to be peacemakers wherever there is a conflict in which we may intervene. Working for peace Incans living in a way that eliminates obstacles among people; radically opposes every form of oppression, violence, and mockery; values the freedom of others; and makes sure that injustices are not committed in our presence without at least trying to do something to prevent it,
How are the levels of conflict around you? Are you at peace with yourself? Is there peace in your home? Is there a good understanding in your workplace? Do you soften the tensions that sometimes arise at church? Allow me to tell you that that is a ministry that is really worthwhile: being an influence for peace, moved by the gospel of Christ, Of course, we do so knowing that we can reap misunderstanding, opposition, and suffering. That very thing happened to Him: far from receiving a peace prize, what He received was a crown of thorns, However, what a privilege it is to walk in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace (see Isaiah 9:6), even if it may entail inevitable suffering.
The prophet Isaiah says, » How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of hill) who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation» (52:7). I wish for those to be my feet. I wish, to the extent possible, to be at peace with everyone and to help everyone to be at peace among themselves (see Romans 12:18).
