«He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding» (Proverbs 12:11).
Tony was a young man who had accepted the gospel in spite of his family’s opposition. He bravely decided to follow the Lord and change his life. He left home believing that God would sustain him somehow. He thought he Wouldn’t need to work anymore and decided to slack off. He went through several towns visiting believers and living in some churches where he was allowed to sleep. His attitude led to getting in different kinds of trouble and even being involved in legal conflicts. Several pastors spoke to him regarding his attitude, but he seemed convinced not to change. The best years of his life went by that way, being unproductive and wasting his time. Laziness is one of the biggest destroyers of young people’s characters. It’s an attitude that’s unacceptable for a Christian. Slacking off, being lazy and disinterested has nothing to do with Christianity. «Where there is an abundance of idleness, Satan works with his temptations to spoil life and character. If youth are not trained to useful labor, whether they be rich or poor, they are in peril; for Satan will find employment for them after his own order. The youth who are not barricaded with principle do not regard time as a precious treasure, a trust from God, for which every human being must give an account»—Child Guidance, ch. 21, p. 123.
Time is life. Every minute of our existence was earned by Jesus on the cross at Calvary. That’s why time is sacred. Actually, our character is revealed by the way in which we use time. It’s a sin to waste time on purpose.
What kinds of friends do you have? Are they hard working, responsible and respectful? If you don’t know how to choose your friends, you’ll suffer a lot. A slacker close to you will get you in trouble. He will destroy your moral principles and teach you to waste time and have indifferent attitudes in life. Then you’ll lose the dream to improve and make an effort to reach your goals. Your life will constantly consist in conformism and mediocrity in one of the most productive times in your life.
No, slackers don’t offer us anything good. It’s best to stay away from their influence.
