«Though his hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness will be revealed before the assembly» (Proverbs 26:26).
While preaching the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus mentioned some of the signs that would indicate his soon return to this world. He spoke of wars, earthquakes and illnesses, as well as deceit and persecution at the end of time. But he also referred to the human heart’s condition, «Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold» (Matthew 24:12, NIV). That’s right. Jesus warned that at the time of the end learning to love would be one of the greatest challenges for society. Social conditions would favor selfishness, incompatibility within the couple and growing apart from each other, among other things. It seems that what matters these days is passion, binging and satisfying the sexual appetite. There’s not enough time to love, trust, respect and admire someone else. In its place, everyone requires, claims for and demands; few people are willing to submit their will, their desires or their interests. In matters of love, human beings today want to be served, but they’re not willing to serve.
The absence of affection is one of the triggers for personal conflicts and anxiety epidemics. Life can’t be enjoyed if there isn’t a sufficient dose of affection. When that happens, disillusionment takes hold of people and a noticeable disappointment comes over them. That’s the profile of several developed societies: in spite of living in an age of great freedoms, access to education and a favorable financial situation, many of their citizens experience a deep personal dissatisfaction, frustration and boredom with life.
How can that kind of situation be overcome? The Bible has the answer, «Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love» (1 John 4:8, NIV). What the world needs is to learn to love. But to achieve that, they need to know God and have an intimate relationship with Him. However, many insist on rejecting that blessed solution, in spite of suffering the consequences of their terrible decisions.
Today I want to invite you to remember the Bible promise that affirms, «Love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God» (I John 4:7, NIV). Open your heart to God and He will help you overcome lack of affection.
