ONE HOT SUMMER DAY in 2014, my family and I were headed to Bocas del Toro, Panama. The sun warmed our skin and the vegetation delighted our eyes. We were going to the island of C016n and we had to travel a long stretch near the Caribbean watershed of Panama. Shadows of women getting water and washing clothes could be seen in the distance; we were in indigenous territory.
My two children surveyed the little houses of the Guaymi people, with tall pillars and palm roofs. We then decided to make a stop. As we were there, my children suddenly came running up to me, asking me to give them money. When I gave it to them, they took that money and the bag of food they had been enjoying on the way, and with the happiness of their childish hearts, gave everything to a Guaymi child who had been watching them for a while. «Mom, look how he’s gobbling up our food!» exclaimed my daughter.
My little ones hid behind the car to watch, spellbound, how that child was eating; from time to time, he looked toward my children to smile at them as a sign of gratitude. It was a tender scene which proved once again the point to which the love of children is pure and real, without pretense
That is the type of love which God encourages in us in His Word. read in Romans 12:9: «Let love be without hypocrisy.» It may seem inconceivable that it needs to be said, but it is true, because adults, unfortunately, wear many disguises that seem to be “love» or «kindness,» but are neither one nor the other. Children do not have this problem. When they give, they give everything, without hypocrisy.
There is only one type of true love, and the Bible defines it very clearly; itis this: «Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things»(1 Corinthians What do you say? Do you have love?
May our love today be like that of a child, and may we never forget that now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (verse 13). Of course, that means love without hypocrisy. “Let love be without hypocrisy” (Romans 12:9).
