«Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared?» (Proverbs 6:27, 28).
The city sky is barely darkening. The streets begin to empty. Meanwhile, nightlife women emerge. There they are, with a lost gaze, waiting for someone to solicit their services. They don’t know who they’ll spend the night with. They don’t understand what true love means. They’re only vessels through which men free their instinctive passions. At dawn, they return home with money in their pockets and a trampled dignity. To them, it’s hard to lead a normal life. Society rejects them and places them in the undesirable sections. They hide their frustration, loneliness and depression with lots of make-up and fake smiles at night. Maybe one day they’ll make enough money to leave the business, or a man might fall in love with them and take them out of that environment, or perhaps one morning they’ll turn up dead at some perverted client’s hands.
One time I spoke with a young lady who was a prostitute. I don’t know why she asked to talk to a pastor, so I went to see her together with another church member. There she was. She couldn’t stop staring at the floor and sobbed as she spoke. To her, everything had started after having sex with her boyfriend. She never imagined she would end up at the mercy of a gang of human traffickers. Her life changed forever. Then I asked her, «Do you want to stay in that environment?» Tears began to roll down her cheeks and she replied negatively. Little by little I began talking to her about God’s forgiveness and the way He changes lives. She listened attentively but there was something in her mind that blocked the message: she didn’t believe God could forgive a woman like her. Nevertheless, I tried to convince her of the immense grace of God and His deep love for her. She wouldn’t stop crying. Then I gave her a Bible and invited her to attend church. I never saw her again.
Some decisions in life lead to serious consequences. Sometimes it seems simple to have sex without thinking about the consequences, but they can range from an unwanted pregnancy, a sexually transmitted disease or even extreme cases like that of the young woman from today’s story. That’s why important not to play with fire in your sex life and to follow God’s counsel.
