IT WAS CHRISTMAS 2013 and our hearts were overflowing with joy. Eighteen of us missionaries were traveling on the long road that leads to one of the indigenous regions of Costa Rica. A truck full of coats to share, as well as my husband’s pick-up, which was also full, escorted the small busload of happy missionaries. We were anxious for the moment we could put our feet on the ground again. The winding, dusty road seemed to get narrower and join the vegetation that grew on both sides. Finally, we arrived! There was the mountain, impressive as ever, dressed up with pines and wild plants, majestic under the splendid blue sky and adorned by the resounding singing of exotic birds. Everything seemed to welcome us.
Dany Rojas from our team would share the Word of God in simple terms, but for that, he needed someone to translate from Spanish to Cabécar. The arrangements had been made and someone would be there to translate, but guess what? That someone never arrived. How would Dany preach the gospel? God performed the miracle. In spite of the language limitations, the people understood the truth that was presented there and many decided to make a commitment to study the Bible more deeply with a layman from a nearby church. What a Christmas of success and blessing that was!
Perhaps in one of your efforts to take the message of salvation to those around you, you feel that you lack something that seems essential to you. It could be money, material resources, or perhaps someone to preach; or you may think that you lack Bible knowledge, the gift to speak in public, or a translator. When that moment comes, trust. The Lord is the first One interested in having one of His children know more about His love, so He will give you what you lack. He will supply everything necessary for the occasion at the same time that His Holy Spirit works in receptive hearts. God never abandons those who preach His Word and supports those who try to alleviate human pain.
«Those who were never told about him will see, and those who have never heard will understand,» says the Bible (Romans 15:21, ISV). I can vouch for the fact that it is so because God Himself is making sure that it is. Do not worry about what you think you lack; He will provide.
«God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit» 9(Hebrews 2:4)
