For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s» (l Corintios 6: 20).
The story is told of a boy who, with effort and persistence, carved a little sailing boat out of lightweight wood, then sanded it and attached a little sail to it. Apart from working properly, the toy boat was well-crafted and looked amazing. When the little boy took it out on the water, the breeze softly pushed it, just like a real boat. One day, while the boy was playing with the sailboat on the shore of a river, the wind started blowing heavily and, between the wind and the current, the ingenious vessel was carried downstream until it disappeared. Devastated, the boy looked desperately for the boat, but could not find it. Finally, he returned home with a tremendous feeling of loss.
A few weeks later, while running errands in the city, the child was surprised to see in the window display of a second-hand shop a little boat that looked like the one he had lost. He entered the shop, looked closely at it and exclaimed that it was indeed his toy vessel! He recognized the marks, shapes, tones and all the details with the precision of an artist identifying his own art. When the shopkeeper came closer, the child exclaimed with certainty:
«This boat is mine! I know it because I built it myself and the river carried it away.
The shopkeeper was skeptical and explained to him that a person had sold him the little boat and that now it belonged to him. Finally, the merchant walked away, saying,
«If you want it, you’ll have to buy it.
«With great effort, the child worked as hard as he could to gather money. As soon as he had enough money, he rushed to the shop and bought the precious sailboat. Hugging it, he tenderly spoke to it saying,
You are mine. I made you and now I bought you at a price.
«If you sometimes feel inferior or even get to the point of despising yourself, if you got lost or the winds of life dragged you to unpleasant destinations, if you believe your past was not favorable and now you must suffer the consequences, or if you lost your hope of being found, remember that our Lord Jesus created you and, since then, you belong to Him. Moreover, for every moral transgression you have committed or any rule you have broken, Jesus paid a high price His own life!) to rescue you and tell you: «You are mine; I formed you and now I have bought you with a price.»
