Q: I am a boy twelve years old. My biggest problem is I worry about everything. I worry something will go wrong when I babysit my sister. I worry when my parents don’t get along. I worry about not getting good grades. I worry all the time. What can I do?
A: Worry is a natural part of life. (I worry sometimes that my advice isn’t as good as it ought to be!) We should not, however, let worry overwhelm us.
Jesus preached a sermon once in which He talked about worry. In Matthew 6:25-34He gave three ways we can stop worrying.
Trust God. In verse 32 Jesus says wicked people should worry, but Christians don’t need to worry about anything, because God will take care of them.
Seek God first. Next, in verse 33, Jesus says to put your energy into finding God’s kingdom. If you do that, Jesus tells us, you don’t have to worry about anything else.
Live one day at a time. Finally, in verse 34, Jesus tells us just to live one day at a time. Don’t sweat what could happen tomorrow—just pay attention to today!
