For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 1 PETER 2:20, NKJV
In the center of Havana, Cuba there is an area where the main government buildings are mostly congregated, and, as you can imagine, this place is very well guarded and protected. During our trip, we noticed that one of the buildings had a very large artistic drawing on the wall of one of their past leaders, Ernesto «Che» Guevara. We had seen it several times during the day, but this time when my wife’s cousin was driving us through at night, we noticed they used beautiful, dramatic lighting at dark. I asked the cousin if we could pull over so I could take a picture. We pulled over, and I jumped out of the car with my camera and tripod. In order to get a good picture, I would have to set my camera on the tripod and set the camera to leave the shutter open and patiently wait about a minute to let enough light in to get a good picture. I carefully set up my tripod and arranged the camera settings, properly aimed and focused, and then I pressed the shutter. Just as the shutter opened, a police car screeched up to where we were parked. He got out and ordered us to leave.
We hadn’t seen any signs or anything saying we couldn’t take any pictures, but we knew it was important to obey the authority of the police. We tried to explain that I just needed about one minute to get the shot and that the camera was already in the middle of taking the shot. He still insisted we had to leave. I had no choice but to get my camera. Just as I was about to grab the camera, the shutter closed. The shot was successfully taken, and it was a beauty!
Sometimes it’s hard to be patient, especially when you haven’t done anything wrong. Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do? What should you do? `The BIBLE says even when we suffer, we will honor GOD by being patient.
