«Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.» And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. EXODUS 1 7:6, NKJV
Yesterday I shared with you how we spent time exploring Canaima Falls in Venezuela. Soon it was time to continue the rest of our day trip. We got back on the small plane and took off, heading deeper into the jungle, where table-top mountains called «mesas» began to pop up on the horizon. The elevation of the mesas was very high, and below, an endless jungle. We were on our way to visit Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall in the world. Our pilot navigated between the mesas till we finally approached one in particular, and right before our eyes was the magnificent Angel Falls.
The water falls from the top of one of the rocky mesas down to the jungle floor. The falls are more than thirty-two hundred feet high. We knew this was an incredibly unique site because there are only two ways to view Angel Falls. You either have to charter a small airplane, like we did, one that was small enough to fly low and get close to the mesa and waterfalls, or you had to hike on foot, which we were told was a long expedition down rivers and through the jungle. Our time observing the falls was short since we were flying, but I will never forget those few minutes we had marveling at the highest waterfall in the world.
During the Exodus, the Israelites were thirsty, and God told Moses to strike the rock and water flowed out, just like a waterfall. You may remember that the second time this happened, Moses was supposed to just speak to the rock, but he disobeyed God and tried to take matters into his own hands. When GOD gives us specific instructions, we need to trust that He has a reason why we need to fully trust and obey Him. Will you trust God completely today?
