Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. JAMES 1 :1 2, ESV
On the last day of our mission trip to Venezuela we were given the day of to do whatever we wanted. I got together with a couple of friends and we made a plan. We went to the local airport and chartered a small plane and pilot to take us to Canaima National Park. Since the place where we were working was already on the edge of the jungle, it was not too far away.
This is no ordinary park—it’s the sixth largest national park in the world—as big as the entire state of Maryland! The curious thing is that we had to charter an airplane to get there because there aren’t any roads that go into the park because of its remote location. We flew in a single-engine Cessna, staying low, which was a great way to appreciate the vastness of this park. We passed miles and miles of untouched jungle below us. There were no clearings or open areas, just endless trees, Suddenly, up ahead, we saw a huge river, and farther ahead a clearing in the jungle. In the clearing was a small airstrip. The pilot landed, and we got out and walked to the only building in sight, noticing that we were the only tourists in the area. Over the next half a day, we hiked through the jungle, then took a rustic canoe across a lake and walked through a portion of the Savannah. Finally, we arrived at a magnificent waterfall called Canaima Falls. We first hiked to the base of the falls and climbed behind the falls. Then we swam in the water at the base of the falls, and later we found a trail that la us up to the top of the falls. It took some effort to get to this place, but the reward was worth it.
There will be difficult trials when we serve GOD, but the Bible tells us to continue doing our best to follow Him. ‘The good thing is the reward in the end will be well worth it!
