Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. I CORINTHIANS 6:19, 20, NKJV
When my wife and I decided to explore Africa, our doctor suggested we take a few precautions. He told us there was a slight possibility of contracting diseases, especially malaria, so as part of our preparation for the trip we had to take some medicine every day for a month before going, during the trip, and for a month after the trip. He also warned about some of the possible side effects, such as hallucinations—seeing something that’s not really there. During our time in Africa we mostly stayed at nature reserve parks, which have been set aside for animals to roam around freely. As we drove up to the lodge the first day, a huge herd of zebras and wildebeest stood around the parking area. Also, behind the lodge there was a watering hole where many other wild animals were drinking water. It sure left an impression in our minds. When we got into our room, the first thing we noticed was a big sign in the room that said, «Do not leave room door or windows open; monkeys may get into your room.»
Of course, we took care to make sure our room was secure, but we kept thinking and talking about that lodge till we went to bed. That night my wife woke up, screaming, «Wake up! There’s an impala in our room!» medicine she was taking was causing her to hallucinate! Of course, I woke up and calmed her down and helped her realize there was not an impala in our room.
Even though we were taking these special drugs to help keep us safe from malaria, there are other drugs out there that can harm your body and mind. The BIBLE refers to our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. Make good decisions today and every day about what you put in your body. Glorify GOD with how you treat your body.
