If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 JOHN 1:9, NIV
On this day in 1963, a very sad thing happened in Dallas, Texas, while U.S. President John Kennedy and his wife were riding around in a convertible limousine. Hundreds of people lined the streets to get an opportunity to wave hello to the president as he passed by. As the presidential motorcade of cars entered Dealey Plaza, shots rang out and the president was hit. His limo sped off to the hospital, but it was too late. It was a dark day in American history. A few years ago, I was in Dallas with my family, and I decided to take my family to Dealey Plaza. We drove downtown and parked around the corner and walked to the plaza. People and traffic carried on like nothing had happened, but for us, there was a raw reminder of a terrible thing that had happened decades before. As we stood on the sidewalk, we noticed an X-shaped mark on the pavement in front of us on the road. The X marked the exact spot where the president was when he was shot.
The government investigation says the shooter was in the Texas School Book Depository building behind the president, but other witnesses say the shooter was in front of the president. Regardless, it’s sad to think of the many horrible things that people do. Because of sin, there are many terrible things that happen every day all over the world.
Sin is a sickness that has affected every person on this planet. Sin started in the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted and lied to Adam and Eve, leading them to disobey God. The good thing is that there is a cure for this sickness. The cure is GOD In order for Him to remove our sins, we must confess our sins to Him and ask Him for forgiveness. He has the power to change us, but first we must allow GOD to work in our hearts.
