For there is one God and one mediator between GOD and men, the Man Christ Jesus. 1 TIMOTHY 2:5, NKJV
Scandinavia is a region of northern Europe that includes Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. We first took a train from central Europe to Denmark, and from Denmark we crossed the Oresund Strait to Sweden. I had assumed the train would go as far as it could go in Denmark and the we would have to get off the train, get on a ferry, cross the Oresund Strait, then board another train and continue our voyage north into Sweden. I was surprised to find the plan was quite different. When the train reached as far as it could go in Denmark, our train car, which was destined for Sweden was disconnected from the string of train cars, and our particular train car was pushed onto a special ferry designed to carry train cars, along with trucks, cars and people.
Next, the ferry crossed the strait into Sweden, and once again our train car was pushed off the ferry and reconnected to another strings of train cars that was waiting for us. Finally, we took off again and continued north. The whole thing happened without us barely noticing what was going on.
One of my friends didn’t even wake up during the whole process! When he woke up the following morning as the train continued north, he asked, “Are we still in Demark? “We told him everything that had happened while he slept. Back in 2000, a bridge was finally built over the strains between Demark and Sweden. It’s one of the longest bridges in Europe now, but before the bridge was built, the way we crossed was the most common way to get across the Sweden.
The BIBLE says that Jesus is like a bridge between us and God. Our verse today uses the word mediator, which means he is a negotiator or a middle man who speaks on our behalf and fights for us. He went as far as dying and taking our punishment in order to save us.
