And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. REVELATION 21:4, NKJV
I have shared with you the story of being at the Berlin Wall, and how I perched up a tree to watch as people from both sides of the wall climbed onto wall and celebrated the end of the separation between East and West Germany. After twenty-eight years, Germany was reunited. I climbed down from tree, and we decided to see if we could also climb up on this historic wall. Before we knew it, we were giving watch other a boost so we could get up on the wall. I was the last one after making sure everyone else got up, but now there was no one to give me a boost. Suddenly, a total stranger grabbed me by my legs and lifted me up high enough for my friends on the wall the reach me. They pulled me up, and we joined the celebration on the wall. People were singing, hugging, and crying because the two Germanys were finally together again. People could now reunite after decades apart. The feeling up on that wall was that of a giant family reunion.
I have been to events where people are happy and joyful: family reunions, NFL games where the home team scores the winning touchdown, deafening international soccer matches. But the joy and celebration on the wall was much more intense. It was a celebration and reunion that had been on hold for twenty-eight years, and even though most of the people on the wall didn’t know each other, they were overwhelmed with joy. I remember everyone breaking out into song. But I didn’t know the song. I was so overwhelmed by the moment, I started singing anyway.
Being united after being separated is a powerful experience. Someday soon we will be reunited with GOD.
There will be no more separation, no more tears, no more pain, no more death.
It will be much greater than our celebration on the wall, and the reunion will last forever!
