But he said “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” LUKE 11:28, ESV
As we rode our camels through the Egyptian desert, we finally arrived at a ridge behind and above the great pyramids of Giza. It truly was a magnificent view. Right in front of us were the three large pyramids, and in the background, the sprawling city of Cairo. We got off our camels, and our guide took some pictures of us. As we continued our way toward the pyramids, we noticed something we hadn’t seen before. Although there were three very large pyramids in this complex, we hadn’t realized that there were several other smaller ones surrounding them. As we approached the pyramids from the dessert side, we particularly noticed a series of three smaller pyramids that seemed to be isolated from the reach of most tourists.
Our guide stopped our caravan of camels and we dismounted. He then turned to us and said, “Go climb,” pointing to one of the smaller pyramids. We had heard that no one was allowed to climb three larger pyramids, but we didn’t know anything about these smaller ones.
We looked at each other, then looked at the small pyramid and decided to go for it. Pyramids, made up of large solid blocks of stones about waist high, are quite easy to climb. We proceeded to climb, one block at a time, till we reached the top. It was quite exciting to be up there, and we stayed there for a few minutes soaking in the view
GOD will never ask us to do things that will hurt us, but He does encourage us to always obey Him because he has wonderful things in store for us. Sometimes they may seem difficult or impossible to do, but GOD promises to bless us when we listen and obey HIM. In order to hear HIM, you have to first listen. When you spend time in prayer, don’t forget to also spend quite time listening God’s voice.
