All Scripture by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 TIMOTHY 3:16, NKJV
After parring the steep portion of our climb of Mount St. Helens, we were able to put our snowshoes on and continue climbing in the snow. The snowshoes helped a lot because they spread our weight out to snow and prevented us from sinking deep in the snow. Our snowshoes also had large claws under the toes, which gave us extra traction. Although the location and the adventure were exciting, the actual activity was reduced to hours of putting on foot in front of the other, tens of thousands of times.
It was early evening when we finally reached the summit and started out over the enormous created before us. In the middle, a huge lava dome was continually forming as clouds of sulfuric gases rose from the crater. There were not words to describe the incredible view from the rim of the crater. It had taken us the majority of the day to get there, and we had not brought camping gear, so we now needed to get off the mountain in a hurry. Our guide introduced us to a very simple way down called glissading. We climbed back down to the steep snowpack and simply sat down on the snow and slid most of the way back down the mountain on our bottoms. The important part was to make sure we kept our eyes open for rocks or boulders hidden in the snow. In about an hour we slid most of the way down a mountain that had taken us all day to climb!
Snowshoes weren’t the only gear we used that day. We had special boots, walking poles, pants, jackets, gloves, packs, and other things that helped us make the journey.
GOD has also provided us the perfect gear for our journey through life-the HOLY BIBLE. It has inspiration and promises; it teaches truth, corrects us, showing us how to improve and how to do what’s right. I don’t climb a mountain without gear, just as I wouldn’t dare go through life without the BIBLE.
