“Look, he is coming with clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So, shall it be! Amen. REVELATION 1:7, NIV
Several years ago, my wife and accumulated enough frequent flier miles to take our family to South America. We had already visited Chile, Peru, and Argentina, so we both agreed that the first place to visit was Brazil. We also decided that on this trip we’d visit a few new parts of Argentina and Chile. We arranged vacation time and booked our tickets to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as our first stop. Our trip wouldn’t happen for six more months, so we had plenty of time to plan.
When the date came, we packed up our things and drove to the airport in Chicago. As we walked up to the counter, we assumed everything was going as planned, but we had a big surprise in store for us. When we arrived at the counter, we gave the woman our tickets and passports. Then she asked us, “Where is your visa?” My wife and I looked at each other. Visa? A visa is a document that gives you permission to enter a country. I soon discovered that sometime between the time I had booked the ticket and the travel day. Brazil had started a new requirement that U.S. visitors had to have a visa to enter. When they told us, what was required to get a visa, we knew it would take us at least a week to get it. You can imagine how disappointed we were. Fortunately, the airline was able to reroute our tickets, and we went straight to Argentina.
Have you ever heard of the Great Disappointment?
One of our church’s founders’ fathers, William Miller, calculated that the second Coming would be on October 22, 1984. Many people accepted his calculations and were extremely disappointed when Jesus did not come.
We need to be prepared every day, because JESUS will come soon!
