Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. ISAIAH 1:18, ESV
When we left Stockholm and traveled to Oslo, Norway, we particularly enjoyed walking up to the ski park where the Olympics took place in 1952. There was plenty of snow on the ground, and a giant ski jump overlooked the city and served as a reminder that the greatest winter Olympians had once gathered there. The following day decide to travel to the western edge of Norway to a city called Bergen. The interesting thing about this train ride was that in order to get to the city of Bergen, we had to travel through some of the most incredible mountain passes and ranges. On our way to Bergen we even took a little side tram north, to a little village called Flam, tucked deep into the mountains and fjords of Norway. Very few people lived in this little town, and they were very friendly as we four American strangers wandered into their little town to get the feel of an authentic Norwegian mountain village.
We eventually made it to Bergen on the edge of the frigid North Sea, next to the majestic mountains. Getting there required us to adapt to the conditions in Norway, but the effort was well worth it. During our entire time in Norway, we saw snow everywhere we went. Did you know snow is mentioned in the BIBLE too? When GOD wanted to tell us about forgiveness, He used snow as an example.
He said that even though our sins were red like the colors scarlet and crimson, when GOD forgives, our sins will be washed away and will be as white as snow. Getting forgiveness from GOD allows us to live without guilt as we continue to try to live as JESUS did.
