“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” ISAIAH 41:10, NKJV
While in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, I drove to a marina on the north Shore, where there was a company that offered people a chance to swim with sharks. Yes, you read that correctly, sharks. Don’t worry, though; everything involved in this adventure was very safe.
After a short briefing, the boat took off and went about five miles out into the Pacific Ocean. Soon we arrived at the location where the boat would lower a large aluminum cage into the water. The top of the cage was open and had air tanks to keep it afloat. At this time, I was given thumbs up to enter the cage. I checked all my gear and put my snorkel and mask on tightly. I climbed over the edge of the boat and down in to the cage. Once I was in the cage, the boat disconnected the ropes holding the cage against the boat, and the cage started to slowly drift away from the boat. The cage extended down into the water about ten feet. I stuck my face under the water and looked around. We were told the ocean in this spot was several hundred feet deep. That’s when I noticed that up from the depths of the ocean came a shark-then a second, a third and a fourth. For the next twenty minutes, four sharks circle the cage over and over. They seemed curious but not aggressive. One of them was very large female shark, about thirteen feet long. A few times the sharks passed within a foot or two of the cage, and I got very close look into the face of a shark and his many rows of teeth. I was scary, but I felt safe and protected.
Our verse todays is a reminder that there are times that we will feel fearful. I’m happy God said not to worry because He is with us and will always help us.
