I can do all things through him who strengthens me. PHILIPPIANS 4:13, ESV
About ten years passed between my first and second visit to Hawaii. The second time, I came with a goal: I wanted to try surfing! I found several instructors who offered surfing classes, so I signed up.
My goal was simple: If I could get up on the board, ride a wave in and successfully lie back down on the board without falling off, I would accept that as having successfully surfed. When I got there, I was happy to see that the waves were small that day. This would make learning to surf a lot easier and increase my chances of successfully catching a wave, I was given a board, and we spent the first twenty minutes learning the basic moves of surfing. When you are first trying to catch a wave, you’re paddling on your tummy, but at the right moment, you must quickly pop on your feet, balance yourself with your arms, and hopefully ride the wave all the way in.
Soon it was time to grab our boards and head into the water. I’m sure you know what happened. I would catch a wave, pop up for a second or two, and then wipe out. I was exhausted from falling and paddling back out to the spot where we could catch waves. But I persisted through the pain because I wasn’t going to give up. After about fifteen exhausting attempts, I got up on the board and I rode it all the way in without falling! When I notice the wave was dying off, I lay back down on the board. I had done it!
Do you have any goals? Good goals required work and persistence to accomplish. Some can be accomplished quickly, but others can take years. Don’t be discouraged!
Ask GOD to be part of your journey because when GOD is with you, He will lift you up and give you strength when you need it!
