Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. MARK 4:39, NKJV
The first time I went to Hawaii with my family, we spent a day visiting the North Shore of Oahu. Oahu is the Hawaiian island that holds the capital, Honolulu. One of the places we didn’t want to miss was the North Shore, which is famous for one thing-surfing the big waves! I didn’t know much about surfing, but it seemed like an exciting sport! I definitely wanted to watch some of these brave guys and girls catching a wave. Since those beaches were well known for having huge waves, I expected to see big waves, but when we arrived at one particular beach called The Pipeline, I was shocked at how huge these waves were.
There were about half a dozen guys surfing that day, and I assumed they were either the bravest people on the island, or the craziest. As I watched in amazement, I decide to try to estimate how tall the waves were. I took out my camera and looked at some of those photos and compared the estimated six-foot-tall guys against the waves, and I determined that the waves were between twenty-five and thirty feet tall! Besides the impressive size of these waves, the sound these waves made when they crashed was a deafening thunder. A coupe hour later we were several miles down at a beach with much smaller waves, where I decide t try boogie boarding. It was fun, and I thought to myself, “Maybe someday I’ll learn how to serf.”
Can you imagine if I had tried to surf those huge waves? Not goo. In the BILE we read the story about when Jesus and His disciples were on a boat during a violent storm with huge waves. The disciples panicked. They thought they were toast. For a moment they forgot who was napping on the boat. But our verse today reminds us what happened.
GOD’s power can be seen when nature obeys the Creator!
