Search me, God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. PSALM 139.23, NIV
On a recent trip to Puerto Rico, I spent the weekend speaking in three different churches on the island. To my surprise, the kind folks who invited me to come told me that on Sunday we would take a trip and do something fun in a place called El Yunque National Forest-in a part of the rain forest that only locals knew about.
That morning, we got up early and took off in the car toward the rain forest. Soon we were driving through a heavy jungle higher and higher into the mountains. In order to get to this place, we had to leave the usual road and travel on rough side roads. Soon we arrived at a place where a bunch of cars were parked and knew the rest of the way we’d have to go on foot. About a mile in the path started getting incredibly muddy, and we had to climb over logs and scramble up and down muddy slopes in order to continue forward. Soon, at distance I could to hear the deep thunder of water falling.
A few minutes later we were at an incredible location in the rain forest where a river flowed down a series of huge rock piles, creating a bunch of neat waterfalls and pools where about fifty locals were swimming, playing, and jumping into the water. There was even a huge rock where you could climb and jump in and rope you could swing on and drop into the deepest part of the pool. My hosts that day knew the kind of excursion I could really enjoy, so they planned this outing with me in mind, and as far as I’m concerned, they nailed it because I had the greatest time there with them!
No one knows you better than God. He created you special and unique, and He knows the desires of your heart and the things that worry you. That’s why God is the best and most trustworthy friend there is. Spend some quiet time with HIM today!
