“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” MATTHEW 26:41, NIV
Several years ago I was driving through the southwest corner of South Dakota shooting some scenes in the Black Hills. Millions of people flock to the other big attraction in the area, Mount Rushmore, but forget to enjoy the amazing natural beauties of the Black Hills. As we drove, we discovered amazing scenic drives with plenty of bison and other creatures freely roaming around. Some of the coolest rock formations in the country-called needles-cover the rolling hills. These needles are huge, pointy rock formations that dot the mountainsides, allowing tourists to drive through and even under some of these rocks.
Since we finished recording early, I was anxious to drive to a place nearby called Mammoth site. As you can imagine from the name, this was an attraction that had to do with those big, extinct elephant cousins, woolly mammoths. We arrived and paid the entry and took the initial little tour in the museum, which eventually led to a very fascinating part of the attraction-the actual mammoth skeletons still in the ground. Years ago, a pit was discovered in this location, where various creatures had fallen in and died, including mammoths. As the scientists started digging deeper, they were very surprised to find that the deeper they went, the more mammoths they found. Dozens of mammoths had fallen into that pit and died.
Satan’s goal is to get us to fall into the pit of temptation. He uses every method he can to temp us; each day we must pray and ask God to deliver us from falling into Satan’s traps. Since he’s a clever enemy, you must be especially careful in areas you might be weak in. Satan will specially try to get you to trip up in those areas, so avoid getting anywhere near those temptations-at all costs! Daily closeness to GOD is the best way to avoid falling to temptation.
