He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say this mountain, “Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” MATTHEW 17:20, NIV
A few years ago I needed a film scene where I was climbing a rock, so we went to one of the most famous rock-climbing spots in North America, El Capitan, a three-thousand-foot vertical rock in Yosemite national Park. Arriving at the park, we hiked a little way up to where the actual rock face began. Our goal was to climb and shoot on the first pitch, or the first section of the rock wall. The first thing we did was to get our special climbing shoes on that would help us grip the cracks in the rock wall. Next, we strapped on our harnesses and got all the camera equipment ready.
Our guide went up first. He climbed a few feet and then connected a rope to the rock wall using a carabiner and a cam-small but important pieces of gear. As he climbed, one of the camera crew was belaying him, which means they held the other end rope. If he slipped and lost his grip, we would not let him fall. Every few feet he installed another cam and carabiner and tied his rope in higher and higher. Once he reached the top of that section of rope, it was my turn to follow. Now my harness was tied into the rope, cams, and carabiners. If for some reason I slipped, they would hold me up. I had never climbed an actual rock wall before, and a little by little I climbed my way up, having faith in the guide , in the rope, cams, and carabiners. Even though cams and carabiners are small, their role is incredibly important.
In an airplane, a tiny computer is responsible for making sure things run properly. Pulling out one important part from a car will render it completely useless. Small things can have big impacts, and our BIBLE verse today proves it, because even if you only have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can do big things. That goes for you too! Even if you are young, God can do big things through you today!
