Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 CORINTHIANS 11:1, ESV
When I was invited to go speak in Bermuda, I was quite excited to visit the little island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. After my speaking duties, I stayed a few extra days with my family.
At one beach we found a sand castle competition going on. We saw a bunch of amazing things built out of sand and the carious prizes. Another beach had pink sand! But one of our favorites was a beach on the north point of the island that had some large rocks cliffs out about fifty feet from the beach, plus a bunch of nice shallow reefs to explore. We ended up going to this beach twice because we enjoyed it so much. While there, we noticed that people swam about to the cliffs and scampered up the cliff face by a little path that we hadn’t noticed before.
Once at the top, they would jump down into the water in one area were the water was deepest. The cliff looked to be about twenty-five feet tall, and it looked pretty safe, so we decided to copy jumped into the beautiful ocean water.
When we copy people, we must make sure they are good role models. Some of the role models our society offers us are actually horrible role models. Some of the sports figures, actors, and celebrity figures often display bad attitudes, hurtful actions, and inappropriate behaviors. Not sure who to copy? Try Jesus. After all, that’s what it means to be a Christian, a copier of Christ!
