For you know very well that day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 1 THESSALONIANS 5:2, NIV
I Enjoy living in Michigan. One year I decided to take a camping/hiking trip with some friends to a place called North Manitou Island located in the northern part of Lake Michigan. The interesting thing about visiting North Manitou is that no one lives there. It’s not very big, only about eight miles and about four miles wide. While there, you are free to hike and explore the island, which includes woodlands, swampy areas, beaches, and dunes. A boat service takes visitors to the island twice a week, on Friday to Sundays. In other words, you can either visit the island from Friday to Sunday-a weekend-or go Sunday and stay all week till the next boat comes on Friday.
We could only go for the weekend, so our plan was to take the boat out on Friday and come back on Sunday in time for the new workweek. It was important to make sure we’d be back at the dock on time on Sunday. We had on change to get to get off the island on Sunday, and if we were not there on time, the boat would leave and we would be force to stay on the island another five days. This would be a big problem, since we had responsibilities at home, not to mention we only brought food and supplies for a couple of days. As much as we enjoyed the island, when Sunday came, we were ready when the boat returned to get us.
Someday, Jesus is coming back to save us from this sinful world. No one knows when that day will; THE BIBLE compares it to a thief in the night because you never know when they will show up. That’s why we need to be ready every single day. Don’t risk missing out on getting to our real home, heaven!
