However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you. DEUTERONOMY 28:15, NIV
The lower forty-eight have only one temperate rain forest zone, located in Olympic national Park, in the state of Washington. Tropical rain forests are hot and filled with tons of living things, and a temperate rain forest also has an amazing amount of living things, but the temperature is cooler. During a trip to the Pacific Northwest, I decided to make a point of driving out to Olympic Peninsula to one of these temperate rain forest areas. I found a trail that did a nice loop into the rain forest, allowing us to get deep into the rain forest.
As we drove, the ecosystem began to look more and more like a temperate rain forest. Soon we found the trailhead and parked and started walking in. Within the first hundred feet it felt like we were swallowed up by the rain forest. There were no noises of cars or traffic. The tree canopy above us darkened the forest floor. The vegetation growing was thick and green. The forest floor was filled with huge carpets of moss and enormous fern gardens. Mosses of various types hung from the tree branches and covered the trucks of trees that were hundred of years old. Being in there was like being in another world. Even the air felt different from breathing “regular” air not found in a rain forest.
There was something pure and earthy about his place that made me wonder what the Garden of Eden was like. Was it hot and steamy like a tropical rain forest, or was it cool and comfortable like a temperate rain forest? Either way, we can be sure that the real Garden of Eden was much, much better than anything we have on our planet today. It’s unfortunate that Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Fortunately, someday God will l recreate the earth to be how it was when He originally made it.
I can’t wait! In the meantime, choose to obey God.
