For is by grace have been saved, though faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. EPHESIANS 2:8, NIV
While filming a video in Maui, we drove along the northern shore where we entered an amazing rain-forest. Soon we arrived at our destination, and we got our gear and microphones ready and met the guide who would outfit us.
We proceeded to put on harnesses, helmets, and special shoes. Our guide checked all our equipment and gear and announced that we were ready to go. He led us to path that immediately went into the incredibly dense rain-forest-so dense that after ten or fifteen steps you couldn’t see where you had just been. We went up and down several slopes, and the suddenly we came out into an opening with a view in all directions. It looked as though we were up on a high bluff.
Our guide then took us to the edge of a cliff and showed us where we would be rappelling down. When you rappel, your harness is connected to a rope, and the rope is connected to another person who makes sure you descend safely.
That person is called a belayer. I backed out over the edge of the cliff and made my way down backward. At the bottom of the cliff was a waterfall! Our next rappel would be down the face of the waterfall. This was a little harder because you couldn’t quiet see where you were stepping since the cliff wall was covered with a rush of falling water. Even though I couldn’t see where I was stepping, nor could I see my belayer, I baked my way down the waterfall as water pounded me. It was an intense experience, but /I was happy knowing that my belayer was there to make sure I didn’t fall.
In life, god is the best belayer. As our creator, He’s very interested in protecting us and keeping us safe.
He is the only one we can truly count on in every situation we may go through to never let us fall.
More than anything, He wants each of us to be saved.
