Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. PSALM 25:4, 5, ESV
Last summer I visited a natural land mark in the northeast corner of Wyoming called Devils Tower. First of all, I have to tell you that I’m not very excited about the name that was given to this monument because it doesn’t belong to the devil; it belongs to the One who created the world. I was there to shoot a video for a TV show. We drove to an outfitter about five miles from the monument, where I met a man who would take us rock climbing on the monument.
At the shop, we were fitted for three important pieces of gear; a helmet, a harness, and climbing shoes. Next, we drove to the monument and walked along the base to a spot where our guide told us we would climb. We went over a few climbing rules and got our gear on. All of our filming would happen along the first pitch, or section, of the monument. My job was simple; all I had to do was climb up about sixty feet while the cameras rolled. As I starter to climb, I discovered there were sections of the rock face that had small ledges I could grip, but there were some that didn’t. At times I would be climbing along and hanging off the side of the rock, looking all over the place for the tiniest ledge I could use to climb higher. Sometimes I felt like giving up because I just couldn’t fid a spot to grab. That’s when I would hear the voice of the guide telling me to look up or to the side for a place I could grab on to.
In life we will arrive at spots that seem impossible to get past. This is when we must carefully listen to God. Sometimes He speaks directly to us, but others times He speaks to us through His Word or other people. Pay attention, and only listed to godly influences today!
