Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. EPHESIANS 5:18, NIV
After traveling by train from France to Greece, we arrived in Athens with a plan to immediately find a travel agency because we wanted to find a flight to Cairo, Egypt. First, let me tell you that we were in the old sector of the city. That means the streets were laid out in a very random pattern. There was no grid or blocks. There was not a single street that was parallel to another; they just went in every direction. To make matters more difficult, the language in signs was complicated and disorienting. We asked for directions and wiggled our way through the streets, closer and closer till we finally found the travel agency! We were so relieved!
Fortunately the travel agent spoke English and we found out that we could catch a flight that same day-we just had to hurry and make our way straight to the airport. That’s when we remembered that we had no idea where we were. Again, we started to ask directions from time, frustrated that we were lost and worried that we were going to miss our flight. We finally found the bus and headed to the airport, but it was too late- we had missed our flight to Cairo.
We felt so disoriented during that time we were lost. Alcohol has a similar effect, and drunkenness will slowly destroy your family, your finances, your friendships, and your life. As you get older, Satan will tempt you by making alcohol appear fun and exciting. Don’t fall for his tricks; he just wants to ruin your life.
Don’t even fall for the temptation of “just trying it once, “because addition is also part of his trap to snare you. I suggest you simply stay as far away as possible.
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your steps today and always!
