For at one time you were in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. EPHESIANS 5:8, ESV
Recently we decide to visit the Florida Everglades National Park-a huge area of wetlands where a shallow sixty-mile river flows southward for about one hundred miles. As part of our day trip to everglades, we decided to drive to Everglades City in the southwest corner of Florida. Our plan was to take an airboat ride. Airboats have a giant fan mounted on the back of the boat that pushes the boat forward through the shallow water. When we go to Everglades, we found a company that offered airboat tours purchased tickets. At the dock, we boarded the airboat, and we were each given noise-blocking headsets.
Soon we were navigating down a narrow river and entered an area dense with mangroves. Moments later, the driver hit the throttle and started speeding along the surface. We were surrounded on both sides by mangrove forest. After a while, we pulled over because our driver/guide had spotted a family of raccoons in the mangroves. He proceeded to tell us about them and reminded us we should never feet them. Deciding to illustrate his point of how attracted they are to “human things,” he pulled out a bottle of soda and poured a little on branch. Right away, a large raccoon scurried over and started licking the branch. Then the raccoon grabbed the bottle of soda out of the driver’s hand and took off into mangrove! Our guide was embarrassed because he was accidentally breaking the law right in front of us.
Did you know that every day God has asked you to be a good example to the people around you? There are many ways to witness to people, but I would say the easiest way to let your light shine is by letting people see the way you live, by doing good works, and by always being kind to others.
