The Lord Tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. PSALM 11:5, ESV
A few years ago, I bought an old farmhouse in Michigan on five acres that was previously abandoned for ten years. The inside was trashed, and the whole place was a terrible mess, but it was in a wonderful location. I challenged myself to restore the farmhouse to its full glory. I asked my workers to remove all the plaster from the walls and ceilings. As we removed materials from the farmhouse, we several fascinating discoveries-nothing of major value, but we found interesting things such as newspapers dating back one hundred years stuffed into the walls to serve as insulation. We also found a few glass jars and a very old Coke bottle.
As my workers removed the plaster from the ceiling of a one-story area of the old farmhouse, they made an alarming discovery-there was an enormous wasp’s nest in the attic space. The guys called me, and I came. It was about eight feet wide and about twelve feet long and between one and three feet thick feet thick. I had never seen anything like it before. The thing that saved us was that we were working in the cold month of January. Although we encountered tens of thousands of wasps in the nest as we removed it, we were safe because they were all in a drowsy, inactive state because they are dormant during the cold winter months.
Sometimes we walk around in life not knowing that danger is lurking just a few feet away. Satan wants to surround us with danger to make us fall and get hurt. One of his most powerful tools is violence. Have you noticed violence is everywhere around us? It’s found in movies, TV, music, video games, and books. Satan wants us to see violence as “normal,” because of that young people sometimes copy the violence and it out in real life. Exposing yourself to violent images or contents is like asking Satan to expose you to danger.
Ask God today to help you make good decisions that keep you far from violent media.
