But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from evil one.
2 THESSALONIANS 3:3, NIV
A few years ago, my parents flew from California to Michigan to visit my family and me-an event that didn’t happened very often. Usually we traveled to California to visit them. On this occasion, thought, I was blessed with two wonderful weeks with my parents at my home. We did lots of things together. One of their favorite activities was to watch my boy play soccer with their soccer little league. Each evening from Monday through Thursday, one on my boys had a game. We’d pack our camping chairs and head to the field to cheer and support the kids.
One of the days we decide to take a day trip to a nearby town called Saugatuck, Michigan that is located along Lake Michigan. We were going to attraction that puts you in a convertible truck and drives you up and down the towering sand dunes, providing wonderful views of the lake. It was a lot of fun! One of the stops on the tour featured a ghost town called Singapore. In 1871, Tree huge fires consumed three nearby cities. In order to rebuild those cities, thousands of trees surrounding the town of Singapore were cut down to make lumber. Because the protective tree cover was now gone, the winds and sands off Lake Michigan came toward the town and brought it to ruin. Within only four years, the entire town of Singapore disappeared. It was completely buried by sand!
Satan wants to bury you with temptation and sin, but fortunately God offers us safety and protection from evil one. Sometimes in life we feel as though we want to do our thing and go our own way. Just like when the trees around Singapore were cut down, it’s hard for God to protect us when we intentionally put ourselves in a dangerous situation. Part of asking for God’s protection is to decide to stay away from Satan’s temptations.
