All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. 2 TIMOTHY 3:16, NIV
Everyone is fascinated by dinosaurs. When I was a kid, I was intrigued by dinosaurs and knew the names of several of them. In church and in school I was often told that dinosaurs never existed and that hey were mythical. Sometimes we were told that they were real animals but that they lived long ago and were now extinct. On TV and in museums, people taught that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. The more I learned about them, the more confused I got.
As an adult I visited the natural history museum in Washington, DC, and marveled at the amazing dinosaur displays, and I was convinced that there were too many different explanations about dinosaurs. And I knew they couldn’t all be true. It came to a point that I had to decide where I would get my truths from-God or people.
For example, the Bible teaches that God first created life on earth six thousand years ago, while some people think dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. First, I discovered that there is a lot of physical evidence showing that these animals lived, so I knew that these were indeed real creatures. Next, from reading the Bible I knew that only God has the power to create a living thing. That means that in the beginning, the original dinosaur ancestors must have been created by God before sin came along, and they became aggressive and violent after sin entered to the world.
Finally, I started discovering scientific evidence clearly pointing to the idea that these creatures lived thousands of years ago, not millions of years ago, which fits with what the Bible says.
I’m still very fascinated by dinosaurs, and I still love to visit museums, but I rely on God’s word to understand the truth about the world we live in. People’s knowledge is limited, but God word never changes.
