You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. ISAIAH 55:12, NIV
A few years ago I stopped to visit some friends in Oregon-a beautiful state with a variety of environments to appreciate. My friends live in an area of tall rolling hills, dense forests, quick moving rivers, and way from highways and heavy traffic. On the day that I spent with them, they told me about their surroundings and how there were paths and wonderful wooded areas to explore along the river.
All this sounded very nice, especially since I had driven for many hours before arriving. I mentioned how nice it would be to explore it all. They admitted that it would take a while to explore all their land, since they had about fifty acres. But then they offered me an alternative. They took me out to the barn and showed me their four-wheel ATV. They said, “Why don’t you go and take it out! You’ll get to explore a lot more ground if you’re riding on one of these!” That made a lot of sense, but I had never driven one before. They gave me a quick lesson on how to turn felt prepared and ventured out into the wild. For the next hour or so, I drove around grassy plains, pine forests, and alongside a rocky mountain river.
There is a lot of nature in the world for us to explored-it’s like God’s personal artwork! Nature is a great place to retreat to when you want to spend some quiet time with God.
Make time once, in a while to find a quiet spot in nature and spend time talking to God. I’ve discovered that by being surrounded by nature you will feel very close to Him.
